Crafting Terms

Angel Policy

Many companies, including Stampin' Up!, have angel policies that stipulate the terms by which you may make and sell your handmade items using their
copyrighted images. For more info, visit

CASE

You'll often run across this term in crafting videos. It's an acronym for Copy And Share Everything. Crafters know that others will use their ideas and put their own creative spin on them. Sites such as Pinterest and Split Coast Stampers are a great place to find some of those ideas! You will find me on both of these two sites:

Tip of the Month

Stampin' Up! cling stamps arrive on your doorstep on a single sheet of rubber inside their storage case. Here's how to get them ready to use. Please read all steps before starting. Or, if you prefer, visit this web link for my YouTube video on the process: https://youtu.be/Pea7J8AzFVQ,

1. Break apart the images from the sheet.

2. Choose a stamp and find its label on the label sheet. Start with a small- to medium-sized stamp if you're new to this. Peel away the backing, using the cut lines on the sheet. If you don't see the cut lines, try the other side. Be gentle to avoid pulling the

actual label off the sheet with its backing.
(If you have a really large stamp, you may want to peel away only half of the label at first.)

3. Peel away the thick white paper on the back of the stamp; you'll uncover a thick piece of foam. This is the side that receives the label. Note that once you touch the foam with your label, it will be stuck firmly and may rip the foam if you try to move or remove the label.

4. Now, carefully place the stamp on the label sheet so that the contours of the stamp match the label on the sheet. Your accuracy may affect your ability to

stamp a straight image when you're ready to use your stamp! Press the stamp firmly to ensure the stamp and the label adhere to one another.

5. Now, pick up any small corner or part of the stamp and gently peel it away from the label sheet. Your stamp and its label should now be in place.

6. Repeat these steps until all stamps are labeled. You're all set!

February Card Sketch Challenge

One of the easiest ways to make cards is to CASE them or have a card sketch to use for design. Have a little fun, and join my monthly card sketch challenge through February 28. If I have at least five subscribers submit one or more cards to this first monthly challenge by the end of this month, I will use a random generator to select a prize winner!

Here's the sketch for this month:

Feb 2021 Card Sketch.JPG

From bottom layer to top (see rules below for variations):

  • Solid green layer: cardstock base (5.5" w x 4.25" h)

  • Black layer: Additional cardstock mat (5.25" w x 4.0" h)

  • Green marble: Designer series paper (DSP) (5.0" w x 3.75" h)

  • Top black layer: Same cardstock as bottom black layer (3.25" w x 2.125" h)

  • Yellow circles: decorative element; proportional to layout (1.75" here)

  • Bright green layer: sentiment (2.75" w x 0.75" h)

Rules:

Use the card sketch as the basis for your design. While you should stick to the "spirit" of the sketch, you may alter your design in a few ways:

  • All colors in the sketch are illustrative only; you may change them to anything you wish!

  • You may change the orientation to make either a portrait or landscape card, but keep all design elements from the sketch.

  • You may use different shapes for your focal point and greeting; i.e. you may change a circle on the sketch to a shaped flower or other design element.

  • You may change dimensions (measurements) slightly to fit your desired design.

The card sketch challenge gives you the freedom to use whatever card stocks, colors, and stamps you may already have.

Once you complete your card, please email a jpg/jpeg to me at kbrstamping@gmail.com, with subject line Card Sketch Challenge, before midnight EST on February 28. Your submission gives me permission to share your design on my website blog at my discretion and also to enter you in the prize drawing! No other compensation is offered. If you win the prize, you'll need to provide your physical mailing address to receive it.
