Newsletter Changes for 2022

KBRS Note

Hello, dear readers! Thanks for stopping by!

I want to let you know of some changes coming for 2022. First, you may have noticed there was no January newsletter last month. That's because I've made a decision to move from a monthly newsletter to a bi-monthly newsletter. To be sure you don't miss any important time-sensitive promotions, I'll step up the frequency of my blog posts to let you know what's happening!

For 2022, the nature of my newsletter will change, as well. I'll be dropping some of my regular features - and adding some new ones! You'll still be seeing some of the Stampin' Up! promotions when they coincide with my publication dates, but you'll also be seeing more of my personal crafting and business news.

I hope you enjoy these changes! I'll continue to announce my newsletter publication from my blog page, and I'd love to hear your feedback on these changes throughout the year. So, on we go!

March 2022 Paper Pumpkin Kit: Beyond the Horizon - Available February 11 through March 2

Paper Pumpkin

This month's Paper Pumpkin kit expresses gratitude to subscribers by adding a SECOND stamp set to the kit! The Beyond the Horizon Kit features beautiful hand-crafted watercolor prints and designs from in-house artists. The set coordinates with the New Horizons Suite Collection in the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog - another crowd pleaser!

Beyond the Horizon contains enough elements to create 9 cards - 3 each of 3 designs - and has 9 coordinating envelopes. The all-inclusive kit includes printed card bases, die-cut paper pieces, embellishments, adhesive, a Misty Moonlight Classic Stampin' Spot, and more! Sentiments include "thanks," "hello," "thinking of you," and more that will work for stamping year-round.

Coordinate colors are Bumblebee, Calypso Coral, Evening Evergreen, Misty Moonlight, Night of Navy, Old Olive, and Pale Papaya. Order yours now at this link.

Fussy Cut

Use a pair of Snips or fine-point scissors to cut manually around a stamped image. This is often done when there is no die-cut available for your image, or you simply want to eliminate some part of an image. The hummingbird at right was fussy-cut before being mounted on its card.

Dancing Baseline

Every line of text has a baseline. It is a real or imaginary line upon which the text is grounded. The bottom of each letter generally sits on a baseline, except when letters have descenders that fall below the main body of the letter (x-height); i.e. g, j, p, q, and y.

Dancing baselines are often seen in modern calligraphy, where letters are drawn for artistic interest. (See the "Sorry for your loss" sentiment at right.) Not only are dancing baselines visually interesting, but they are a wonderful friend to people who have trouble getting a stamp straight on a card or other project. The dancing baseline makes perfect stamping rather irrelevant! If you have this issue, consider buying stamps with this feature, and no one will ever be the wiser that you are "straight-challenged."

What's Happening in My Studio!

In the Studio

I've been busy in the studio this month making kits, creating card packs, and making interesting cards! I opened an Etsy shop some time ago, but until recently I had not completed a sale. Now that's changed! I've had a flurry of customers lately, and it has encouraged me to list more items.

Items you can find in my shop include 6 x 6 paper packs of DSP and specialty DSP (12 sheets each, double-sided); boxed card sets featuring beautiful DSP; hand-pieced cardmaking kits with 3 cards each; 8-1/2 x 11 cardstock grouped by color family; and one

digital 6-card tutorial on making slimline cards. More items will be posted soon!

The cardmaking kits are ideal for getting together with friends and having a crafty afternoon! They include color card bases, pieced or cut DSP, scrap paper 2.5" x 2.5" or larger in color and white, a white piece for the inside greeting, and in some cases recommended design options. You supply your own stamp sets, inks, adhesive, and envelopes. This is a great way to get your friends and family interested in paper crafting!

The digital tutorial is available for immediate download - no waiting and no shipping! Stampin' Up! recently included some slimline products in their January-June 2022 Mini Catalog, but the cards in the tutorial do NOT require any special products. Just use what you have for regular rectangular cards. I also recorded a YouTube video that complements this informative tutorial.

FH Pop-Up Box.jpg

Finally, I've been having fun trying new techniques. I made this cute pop-up flower box for a friend's birthday card. She was thrilled to get it and couldn't imagine the care it took to make it. While it did take some time to color and construct, the process is not too complex for a crafter with just a bit of practice behind them! I have no video at this time, but let me know if you're interested in one!
